More about curriculum
The program is designed for international students who are not in sufficient command of the Russian language and want to study in Russia. It is also oriented toward the education of Russian students who are interested in receiving MA RUB, LFUI and UNIMI diplomas, as well as MA diploma in cultural studies of RGGU, and are ready to study in foreign languages.
Our international MA degree program is made for those, who:
  1. Want to study culture and modern society of Russia (mostly of XX-XXI centuries) during the MA education and at the same time do not speak Russian fluently and want to improve their skills while getting the MA degree.

  2. Take Russian culture and history as a part of European and worldwide history and would like to acquire knowledge not only about Russian but also about international academic systems and to become competitive on European level (for instance, to enter a PhD program at one of the EU universities).
The graduates of the programs "Russian Culture" and "Russia and Europe" work in academical and scientific fields, in media and marketing, in the areas connected with international cooperation. A rather big part of the alumni decide to get a PhD degree in Russia or to apply for PhD at European universities after the graduating from HSE

About the curriculum
  • Compulsory modules: Methodology of Cultural Studies, Visual Studies, Russian Culture;
  • Variable modules (depending on primary areas of students' research interests): Russian as Foreign Language, Fashion, Media, Cinema, Management of Cultural Projects.
  • Courses of the curriculum (2019)
  • Languages of the program: English + Russian.
  • Length of education: 2 years full-time or 2,5 years part-time
  • For double degree MA diplomas (Ruhr-Universität, Bochum, Germany; Leopold und Franz Universitat, Innsbruck, Österreich; State University (UNIMI), Milan, Italy) : the German (can be studied at HSEC) or the Italian languages are also necessary.

  • Each type of visual aid has pros and cons that must be evaluated to ensure it will be beneficial to the overall presentation. Before incorporating visual aids into speeches, the speaker should understand that if used incorrectly, the visual will not be an aid, but a distraction.

Entry requirements and tuition fees
Who can apply: 4-years bachelors (240 credit points ECTS) or 3-years bachelors (180 credit points ECTS) if the degree was given by one of the top-300 universities

Entrance examination: For the admission on a fee-paying basis, you have to submit on time a set of documents in accordance with requirements and pass a free-form interview in the Russian or/and the English languages. The another option of the admission is a quota of the Ministry of Higher Education of the Russian Federation for international students (https://studyinrussia.ru/en/study-in-russia/scholarships/).

For the admission on a state-funded basis, you are required to have a citizenship of one of the countries of the Customs Union and you have to pass an exam on "History and Theory of Culture" on a competitive basis.

Tuition Fees: approx. 3330 euros per year (full-time) or approx. 1350 euros per year (part-time).
